Gardening Tips

  • Grub Damage - As lawns wake up and start to turn green it becomes very apparent where grubs are at work.  You will see dead patches of lawn where the dead grass is not connected to a root (the dead grass can easily be swept away leaving bare dirt).  Now is the time to treat these areas with Bayer 24 Hour Grub Control or Sevin.

  • Ash Borer - Now is the time to apply a soil drench of Merit to your ash trees to control Emerald Ash Borer.  Merit is the active ingredient in Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect Control, Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed, and Bonide Annual Tree and Shrub Insect Control.

  • Patching Lawns - Now is the time to apply grass seed to bare patches in lawns.  If grubs caused the bare spots you may want to wait a week between applying the proper grub killer and putting down the grass seed (grubs will eat grass seed).

  • Moles - Moles have definitely become active.  There are 2 great products that you can use to take care of the problem:

    • MoleMax is a granular product that when applied to your yard will irritate the mole into moving elsewhere.  You should reapply this product once a month to maintain this in you soil.

    • Motomco Tomcat Mole Killer - This is a "bait" product that uses a poison to kill the mole.  This bait is particularly effective because it imitates a real worm, which constitutes 80% of a mole's diet.
